New Beginnings Empty New Beginnings

on Sat May 04, 2019 10:23 pm
The first day of classes and come and gone. The chaos of students trying to locate their homerooms was exhausting. But luckily for them, the first day was more of an introduction than actual class time. They met with their teachers, took a tour of the different facilities, like the battlefield, the Gym, and the Pokemon Center on campus. And then they attended a speech by the headmaster.

It was a little disorientating, especially for those who had never really experienced this before, but it was a rewarding experience in the long run.

At this point, classes were over, and most students had headed back to their dorms or homes, but a few students still stayed in the classrooms to chat and whatnot. Some even went out to the battlefields outside to practice their might against one another.

Maia sat in her homeroom and felt very drained. It had been a very long day of walking around and experiencing new things. It wasn't a bad experience by any means, but it was still a lot for her to take in at once.

She had mostly kept her head down for the majority of the day, she didn't even look to see who was in her class. There were a few other students around, but she felt too nervous to talk to them. Instead, she opted to look around the class for the slim chance maybe one of the few people she had met before were assigned this homeroom.

"Auuu...I'm beat," Cinnary whined not too far away from Maia.

While she had been excited to see the school, she hadn't expected things to be so...well, boring. There was a lot of talking and a lot of touring, and she just wanted to get straight into the fighting. When was she going to start smashing her opponents for one?

While Cinnary would eventually need to go home, it was nice to just laze around for a bit. She decided to bring out a pair of smooth metal orbs out, baoding balls, her big brother called them. They were supposed to help with finger dexterity by rotating them around in one's hand while they rubbed against each other. She didn't really use them too much since she got more of a kick from a punching bag (quite literally), but her brother had given them to her before she left and it was nice to think of home.

Cinnary decided to rotate the balls a bit, but found it was trickier than she had first thought. A little too easily, one slipped out of her hand and started rolling away.

"Hey wait!" she said as she followed after it.

The orb would roll underneath Maia's desk, and a little too preoccupied, Cinnary started going under the desk without being so much as bothered to notice Maia and making her look rather inappropriate as she reached between her legs to grab it.

Maia didn't realize what was happening until it was too late. She heard something roll underneath her desk. It looked like a metal orb. That wasn't something you saw every day.

"Huh? What the..."

Of course, nothing could ever prepare Maia for what happened next, as an arm began stretching between her legs towards the orb. What was this person doing? Why didn't they ask her to grab it for them? Maia felt her face flush red. This was not something she thought she was going to experience while attending the academy. She didn't want to make a seen, so she didn't yelp or say anything loud enough for anyone else to hear. She also made a mental note to not tell her grandfather or aunt about this situation. She didn't need them freaking out and phoning Headmaster Gibson.

She cleared her throat a little to address the person fumbling around a very inappropriate place. She really didn't want to do this, but she felt the need to say something. Anything to make the girl stop.

"Um..." She began. "C-Can I help y-you...?"

As Cinnary was about to grasp the metal ball, she was surprised to see a person above her looking down and asking her what she was doing. Maia's voice was enough to startle her as she accidentally started lifting her head, slamming the top against the bottom of the desk.

"GAH!"

The girl slithered out from underneath and started rubbing her head tenderly.

"Ow, ow, ow!" she said through her teeth. Funny how rolling in the dirt, throwing herself against a wall, or any other of her accidents felt like a scratch and a bop on the head was affecting her this much. Maybe it was the element of surprise that forced her body to be unprepared for the blow? It was hard to say.

That said, Maia was still staring, and, realizing just how awkward she had been, Cinnary flushed and quickly flashed the Baoding orb in her hand.

"Oh, uhhh...sorry! I was just going for this!" she said. "Though, now that I think of it, it was pretty stupid to just not ask you to reach for it huh...? Eheh..."

Maia jumped in surprise as the other girl banged her head against the bottom of her desk.

"Oh my gosh! Are you OK?" She asked in worry. That really didn't look like it felt very good. It was probably going to leave a nasty bump for a little while, Maia started to feel a little bad for making her jump. Maybe, as weird as it was, she should have just let the girl grab the ball and go.

"I see, no worries. I shouldn't have startled you like that anyway," Maia replied. "So...What does the ball do? It must be important if you went through the trouble to grab it like that."

Ahh, I'm totally fine!" Cinnary said with a dismissive wave. She flashed a sheepish smile.

Her head actually DID still hurt, but her old man always told her to ride through the pain. It's not like she was bleeding or anything. Ohhhh god it'd be awkward if she started bleeding wouldn't it? She subconsciously touched her head as Maia spoke. Her fingers felt nothing and came back without a trace of red. Good, good.

Looking back at Maia, it seemed that she was asking about the bao ding orb.

"Oh, this thing?" CInnary asked. And then, grinning, "Well, it's a thing I use to strengthen my muscles when I'm not outside to actually work out. You basically have these two and you rub them against one another until they start sliding around in a circular pattern..thing...does that make sense?'

Cinnary often found it hard to express herself in specific words. She instead raised up the balls to show the motion. She would spread her fingers so that they'd be at different heights, allowing the balls to roll around until they were doing a circular motion.

"Like that," she said. "And yeah, it's kinda important to me. My dad always said I should exercise every muscle I can. Finger muscles are part of that. Plus, my brother gave it to me."

Realizing she was starting to get a little too personal, she flushed and laughed it off.

"But I guess that's a little silly, huh? Getting attached to small things like this. I hope I wasn't disturbing whatever you were doing," and then a little more curiously, "Erm, what were you doing exactly? Studying?"

Maia listened closely and nodded along. [color:0403=6ac6cd]"I didn't even know you could work out your hand and finger muscles!" She replied. Cinnary seemed to know a lot about that subject, Maia thought she sounded like a fighting type specialist. Maybe she would relay this information to her grandfather so he could ask Hala about it.

Maia waved her hands in front of her. "No, no! You're fine! I completely understand! I would probably dive after something that meant a lot to me if it fell away from me too." She explained. Especially if it was something from her parents.

"N-no, I was just zoning out, but I guess studying now would make me a diligent student," She replied with an awkward laugh, rubbing the back of her head. "I don't want to head back to the dorms yet, but I have no idea what to do. I'm new to Kagawa and still learning about everything. Honestly, I have no idea how to be a trainer, kids in my home region usually start when they're eleven, but even so, the kids here seem way more advanced than I am, despite us being the same age..." She rambled.

Maia blushed as she realized this. "Ah, forgive me. I'm just muttering nonsense now, huh?"

"Oh, no, no, don't apologize!" Cinnary said waving her hands reassuringly. "I love hearing people talking and you were making pretty good points!"

Cinnary made a toothy grin.

"I have no idea how to go about all this studying stuff, so I'm with you on the where to start bit!" she admitted. "As for me, I've been focusing on training my Pokemon by exercising him. It's how my brother started when he first joined the academy, but I'm afraid he never told me about what the rest was."

She chuckled sheepishly, her hand scratching her head as she did. She then perked up in realization of something.

"Oh, how silly of me! I forgot to introduce myself!" she said.

Maia would see a bandaged hand shoot out in front of her.

"My name is Cinnary! What's yours? I'm pretty sure we all got introduced at the start of class, but I was...eheh...distracted."

Cinnary blushed at this remark. She had been focused on the outdoors that she missed most of the class' introductions until it was actually her turn.

Maia laughed a little. "Yeah, my grandfather and aunt weren't exactly clear on the whole 'trainer' thing either. All I really gathered is making sure they're happy and healthy and to battle with them?" Maia didn't know how accurate her observation was. She assumed that was what you were supposed to do. But, she wasn't exactly an expert on the subject. She didn't even know how to have a Pokemon battle.

She seemed a little surprised at the motion for a handshake, but she grabbed Cinnary's hand and shook it.

"No worries! I think it's pretty overwhelming and there's a lot to remember, I'm sure we'll get a handle on our classmates names eventually," She said. "My name is Maia! It's a pleasure to meet you!"

"Maia! That's such a cute name!" she said. "Kinda like a small cute bird name! Or at least, that's what I think my brother called a bird once!"

She laughed a bit herself and eventually let go of Maia's hand. Looking at the clock on the wall, Cinnary pursed her lips.

"Hmmm, I guess it's getting a little late," she said. "But I don't want to go back to the dorm yet. It's so boriiiing there!"

Cinnary found the indoors a bit of a hassle and lying in bed all day was the last thing she wanted to do. She wanted to go outside and be active! She was going to do her best to stall from going home and see if Maia would prove useful in keeping her outdoors.

"Oh, that's right! You mentioned a grandfather and aunt?" she asked. "Are they pokemon trainers too?"

"Oh, thank you," Maia replied. "Cinnary is a very nice name too." She was a little surprised at the compliment but she wasn't lying for the sake of flattery. She really did like the name, it was unique! She had never heard it before.

Maia laughed a little. "Yeah, I don't really know what to do there yet," She admitted. "Maybe as time goes on, we'll get used to it..." Maia was skeptical of that,  it felt foreign and too open. She didn't know all of these people who were living with her. She wished she could just go home and curl up in her own bed. But that wasn't an option, unfortunately.

She nodded in response to Cinnary's questions. "Yeah, they both have Pokemon. Though, they seem to have both retired from the training life," She explained. "My grandfather has a few Pokemon, but he mostly trains Meowth. He gave me one of his to be one of my partner Pokemon. My aunt has several herself and she was a pretty good trainer. When I was a little girl, she travelled to the Johto region and took on the Gyms there. She was a Semi-Finalist in the big conference they had with all of the trainers who collected eight badges. She hasn't really done a lot since then, but she caught me a Noibat to bring along with me."

"Even though they have the skill, they didn't have the chance to teach me how to be a trainer, so I'm going in this blind. Pretty sad, huh? Most kids at least have some sort of idea before they get their first Pokemon..."

"Bwaaah, your relatives sound so coool!" Cinnary said, her eyes shining once Maia finished telling her tale. "It's a shame you didn't get to learn with them, but that's okay! We're here now right? I could probably say the same about my brother. He's a professional trainer and he just kinda left me to go to the big city, eheh."

She stretched her arms and made a yawn. Outside, the weather seemed great. It would be nice to just stroll around and--

"Oh, hey!" she said turning to Maia. "Since I'm not in the mood to go home yet, I was planning to go around to train with my Pokemon. Maybe see some in the wild too. You wanna come with? If you're really in the mood, maybe we can battle, too!"

Maia laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, they're both pretty great." She said. She loved them both dearly. Maia wanted to become the best trainer she could for them, she was going to make them proud, no matter what she had to do.

She followed Cinnary outside.and took a deep breath, she was amazed on how clear the air was in Oolong City, she'd thought it would be smoggy here, but somehow it wasn't. It was nice.

She blinked in surprise at Cinnary's suggestion. Was she prepared for this? Probably not.

"Um... Ok!" She responded. "There's a bunch of trees and gardens on the far end of the school grounds, I think I heard some older students mentioning wild Pokemon live there, did you want to check that out?"

Cinnary's eyes shown almost instantly.

"Ooooh!" Cinnary cooed as she looked outside. "I'd love to see some wild Pokemon! Come on, let's go!"

Without warning, Cinnary grabbed Maia's wrist and would start speeding into the hallways.

"So! What Pokemon do you have?" she asked perkily.
